Sam Ard On Saturday

On air: Saturdays 10-1pm

Sam has three hours of live fun with a stack of amazing hand-picked tunes, news of the day, a catch-up with the Nana and a host of guests and live music.

  • Sam will keep you bang up to date with the very latest news, events, weather and travel in Leicestershire and the UK across the show. There’s a peek into the local and national press during the show, along with all the latest showbiz and lifestyle news.

  • In the music, every week Sam picks his favourite new gem to play for you - Sam’s Jam. Also, in Something Old, Something New, listeners choose their favourite new song from an established artist and we put it up against one of the artists older songs. How will it compare?!
  • The Nana gives us a bell every week to fill us in on what’s happening in her world and to debate the week’s hot topics. Think garden snails, dub-step music and moaning at Sam for cutting the grass and you’ll get the idea.
  • Every week we welcome a Saturday Guest to the show, for a little chat over a brew and bacon sarnie. So far we’ve had bands, politicians, famous broadcasters and even a shed expert – that’s variety.
  • Suggest your favourite local days out and attractions in the Local Handbook. It’s essentially a handbook put together by the people of North West Leicestershire, with new entries every week. So far you’ve suggested your favourite local parks, bike tracks and attractions - keep an eye on Facebook for the gallery of your suggestions!

About Sam

Sam’s been with Hermitage FM since early 2012, presenting and producing various shows on the station. Sam’s only seventeen and so currently juggles A-Levels with presenting for the station every Saturday (the latter is much more fun, we’re told). Sam aspires to become a broadcaster and journalist and has an infectious passion for both being on the radio and also Leicestershire.

Sam was inspired to get into radio by greats such as Steve Wright and Jo Whiley and when not on the radio, you can find him riding round Leicestershire in hideously tight lycra (currently attempting to train for a triathlon) or walking his extremely excitable puppy Mabel. Hear him interfering on Saturday Breakfast and on his show, Sam Ard on Saturday. He also writes an online blog with over 55,000 readers and occasionally writes for local papers such as the Loughborough Echo.

Get involved with the show!

Got a birthday? Want to have a chat on air about something Sam’s blabbering on about? Say hello and we might even play you a tune, or pass on your comment to the Nana…
